Sketches
- After going initial research and convocations about ideas with Rob and Jen we decided to get our best idea down on paper. We had a good idea of what we wanted the book to be so I sketched out basic ideas of the way each page is going to be.
- Student page - x2 projects split across a B5 page with perforations to make each project into a postcard once it gets ripped out from the book. The idea behind this was that the reader could remove the work they like the best and put it in a new environment (either on the front cover or on a wall etc.)
- Photo page - In the style of American yearbook. Picture of all the students from the course also includes name and quote which best describes them. This was to add a more personal touch to the book which helps to give the book some longevity after the exhibitions are over. Students will be able to look back in years to come to remember the time on the course.
- These sketches helped me a lot when I started designing as I had a better idea of how to lay it all out as it was very complicated thinking about the design with no sketches.
Physical mockup of the book, showing how the pages can be removed and then add the postcard to the front. This mockup also gave us an idea of size and whether the book would be big enough to house all of the work or whether it needed to be bigger.
Page Dimensions
- Each postcard to be 125 x 150mm
- Leaving a 25mm margin once the page has been ripped out
- Perforations down the middle and through the middle to make the selected work into postcards.
Graphic Design - Inside Pages - Concept
Contents Pages
- The name isn't included on postcards, meaning readers refer back to the contents page to find out whose work they are looking at.
- The student's contact information will be on the postcards
- The layout of the names has been designed so that the space at the end of the name is equal this is why you get the interesting layout style we thought this would be more interesting than having it all justified or left aligned. It also means that everyone is equal throughout the book as they get a page each as well.
Student Pages
- Each student has one page containing two postcards meaning they can include two projects within the yearbook.
- The postcards will show a photo of the student's work on the front and information about themselves and projects, on the back.
- The name of the student will also be kept on the margin so that the front of the card only has to contain the work and people can easily see whos the work is.
American Yearbook Photos
- American style yearbook photos will be included at the back of the book.
- This is more for sentimental value for the students. Categories such as "Class Clown", "Most likely to succeed" will also be included as well as a quote from each student.
- This is all included so it becomes a Year Book that everybody in the class could keep remembering their time at LAU.
Evolution Print Quote
- As part of our proposal for the Graphic design yearbook we also wanted to get ahead of the game and contact Evolution print directly to see whether the concept was possible to print for under £2000
- Below are two quotes that they gave us one uses GF Smith paper and the other which is considerably cheaper uses there standard paper.
