To get a better idea of what the yearbook needs to be like (content/style) I started my research looking at the previous LAU yearbooks. This gave me a better understanding of what was expected of us when producing this year's book. The main thing that I got from looking at the previous yearbooks was the variation in style from year to year which helps to present each year in a different way.
From looking at the previous yearbooks this gave us some initial ideas for our book like the size, amount of pages, binding and paper choice.
After my inital research into LAU's yearbooks, I wanted to find out what other universities are going for their end of year show books. To get a good range of visual research for the yearbook I looked at ECAL, Kingston, UAL, RCA, Glasgow School of Art and more.
All of the books that I found managed to incorporate a relevant style to the book that means you could almost tell who was who at a glance. Becuase yearbooks change so much from year to year it is important that we get the "vibe" of our year group within the book it is not just a generic book with work in, it needs to show the personality each person.
This research has helped me to get a better understanding of what our role will be when producing a book for the course. As well as that it also has given me an idea of what other universities have done in the past and what it takes to stand out to blogs like It's Nice That, who review the best of the end of year shows. It would be very good for us to get some recognition from a blog like It's Nice That as many people will be looking out for who they think the best of 2018 is.
