CONTENT
There is a lot of important content that is required on an invoice, it is essential for that information as legible as possible. The content also needs to be laid out following the same style as the rest of the identity. To keep the consistency with the letters I will also be using the same header from the letterhead as it is a strong structure to keep.
Required information for a standard business invoice
- Name, Phone number and email address
- If the business turns into a limited company we will need to include registered business address as well as the company number.
- Name an address of the client that is being invoiced
- Invoice reference number
- The date for when the invoice is for
- Details of services provided
- Total amount
- Payment terms
- Payment details of how to pay (PayPal, Banks Transfer)
PURPOSE
One of the main things that we are trying to achieve while creating the WYS brand is professionalism, ALL businesses need stationary so that they can interact with clients properly which includes sending formal letters and invoices. If we make sure that we are on top of our money by having a design that we are happy with this should make using invoices and letters a lot easier for us as we understand this can be a real drag to do.
Having already created an invoice for previously I could see where the design was letting us down in terms of ease of use and the overall style. I decided to use this initial design as the base for the new invoice, having already established a solid style in both the business cards and the email signature I made sure to keep to this style when designing the letterhead and invoice.
I did not want to over complicate the invoice, so I used a simple three column grid to lay everything out. Once I had this grid it was then very easy to populate the rest of the page with the most relevant information, again making sure that I was sticking to the style that I have created in other parts of the WYS brand. The grid has done its job by making the information have the right amount of space between everything so that the information is easier to obtain.
Having attended the Career Wednesday workshop at uni this gave me a good idea of what exactly to include on the invoice, its very important for the invoice to be simple for both the client and us to read, going to these workshops have helped me to understand the business side of WYS a lot more and is helping me to prepare for life after uni.
Above is the final design for the invoice, having already created the letterhead is was a lot easier to design the invoice based on letterhead, with the help of the grid.
I also introduce the idea of a stamp which can be seen in the bottom left of the invoice, in order to keep track of payments I thought it would be a good idea to have a system that helped us to identify whether the invoice had been paid by the client. It also works as a sort of authenticity mark on letters as well rather than signing by hand.
