WYS - IDENTITY - UPDATE (REFINING THE IDEA)


UPDATE - 01/03/2018

Having put WYS on hold for the past couple months due to 601 it has given myself and Rob the chance to think a lot more about the overall idea. We have seen how this idea could help us bridge the gap from university to industry. From speaking to tutors, peers and industry professionals its has shown us how valuable the idea is and how important it is for us to make the most of our remaining time at university as we have the opportunity “test run” all of our ideas as well as being able to develop everything we need to be a working business that has a focus on arts books publishing. With a strong identity, we will be looking to attract clients before leaving uni so that we have the foundations to build on. 

In order to achieve what we want before leaving there is a plan that we have devised and now need to stick to. This has been broken down into a number of manageable tasks which we will both need to complete in order to get WYS up and running. It is very important for us to establish a strong unique identity as we need people to remember it as well as want to interact with it. Having already designed the logo this gives us a good starting point to complete the rest of the identity, we are looking to have all of this done by the end of March as we want to launch the website and send of promo packs before it gets too late in the term for us to take advantage of opportunities that it might give us.

IDENTITY - 

WEBSITE 

A hub of information that will help to legitimise the business and will help us when wanting to attract collaborators. This will contain all information about WYS which includes - About, Artists, Events, Shop and Contact. This part of the brief will be lead by Rob has he will be the one building the site but we will work closely together to ensure that we get the site that we are looking for. 

PROMOTIONAL PACK

To attract collaborators/gain exposure we felt that a promotional pack which we could send to artisits would be the best way of reaching out to creatives who have large audiences. Within the pack, it will include - Business card(s), postcard images, stickers, poster(s) and information leaflet. The idea of the pack is that it gives the person a better understanding of WYS and how we could potentially work together the overall idea of the pack is to impress the artist so that they want to work with us and help us grow as well as them. I will be taking the lead on this but will be going back and forth with Rob to make sure the pack is as effective as possible. 

T-SHIRTS

To help the brand grow and generate further interest for WYS we will be producing a small run of t-shirts. These will be for sale through our Instagram as we think this will be the best way to help the account grow and get more people interested in WYS as well as giving us some income which we can use to help fund other projects within WYS. We will be producing simple screen printed shirts with the WYS logo as we feel that this would be easy to sell. As well as simple logo shirts, we have also spoken to Sam Hughes who is wanting to collaborate on some t-shirt designs so we will work with him to produce another desgn which will use his illustration skills. 

SOCIAL MEDIA 

Getting people to know who we are is very important for us and Instagram is the best way to show our audience what we can do and who we are. Along side the rest of the identity we will also be producing artwork for the account as a means of promotion. Together Rob and I will create the artwork and posts that we need as this is something that needs the two of us to oversee. 

Once this is completed we will have the everything we need for WYS, having a strong foundation is very imporant for us as we want to make sure that we portray the right image to the portenail clients. We will be then be looking to actually create our first editions as part of the research brief later in the year.
