Colour Theory - Study Task 01
When it comes too colour and the theory of colour there is a lot to be discussed, scubas why certain colours work better together than others. In the lecture from todays session we were showed some theories behind this, and we were also shown how to look at colours using Pantone colour boards. We were given the the brief to choose colours also known as swatches, using the Pantone colour boards. The task was too choose two, one that we believed that would typically represent the genre then another that would not nearly represent the genre but could still work.
For the first colour swatch we wanted it to relate to the crime genre very easily as possible, so my group and I deemed in obvious that a deep red was to represent blood and would work well for the first swatch. For the second swatch we were told in the brief that we had too differ the colour so that it did conform as well with the first swatch but it still needed too link back too the genre. So we ended up choosing the pastel blue that we wanted it too represent the snooping around of the detective in a crime genre, I feel the cool blue slightly emulates that.
Fantasy, for this we looked at novels under this genre and looked at the ket colours used. Many of them used dark grey and purples, so we thought it was fitting to use a purple this would be to represent mystical creatures such as witches, elf's etc. The orange is there to represent hope, because many fantasy novels come across as dark. So the orange swatch was to so the hope at the ending of novels.
Romance, the obvious swatch was chosen when it came to this as we all believed that a shade of pink wouldest represent love, as everyone can see how that relates. The blue on the other hand is showing that love isn't all happy and there can be cold and upsetting factors in a romance novel.
Science fiction, the first colour swatch that we chose was the blue. We wanted this to show the into the dark feeling, for example when the sun has gone down and the skye turns midnight blue we feel that that this showed sci-fi off well as it can be associated with space. The matt shade of green, this was almost like saying this is what sci-fi character would look like but it is a generalisation but in some senses it can be taken into consideration.
