Studio Brief 02 - Design for Screen - Final Outcome & Evolution

Final animation -

Below is my final render of my concept for a young persons money management website, this animation is a walk through of each different page showing to the users and developers how the site works and the features that the site has to improve the user experience of the site. I decided to add the ambient music as felt that it could make the video more engaging for those who may find money management systems dull, hopefully this means that people will be more inclined to use the site as they can see that the service has been catered for 18-25 year olds. Over all the final animation feels like a success as it is showing the ins and out of the site and this animation also makes for a good advert for the site as well as just a walk through for developers.

Evolution -

This brief has allowed me to explore a range of different media within user interface design and graphic design theory specially. I have been able to explore areas that I had yet to properly look at for example digital design was and area that I have looked at briefly before but this project let me explore further into the how to build a user interface from scratch, it taught me one of the most important things which was problem solving, identifying the problem and coming up with the solution was the first task within this brief and only by the end can you full understand whether you have solved the problem. This way of designing has taught me a lot about my creative process and how to look at briefs in the future not just this one, thinking of a design as a problem can help you come up with more abstract and distinct outcomes.

In every brief I like to have a good understanding of how I could improve my work and areas that I can focus on to develop my individual practice. Through out this brief I have been trying to work on my skills within stop motion design as I feel this is an area of design that i can benefit from and would like to explore more in the future. By using After effects to create my animation for my PayPal save website it has given me the opportunity to experiment with animation in ways that i had not done previously, I was able to learn a lot from other people and within workshops but I found that the best ay to understand this programme was go it a lone and figure out methods to complete certain tasks. This brief has shown me a new side to design that I was scared to experiment with and I will now be use what I have learnt in more briefs to come.

Time management is something that I have been trying to work on since the start of level 5, I was able to use some third party apps to help me manage my time better within this brief this proved more difficult than i thought as the timing of this brief went through the Christmas break which meant that the work was taken a lot slower than usual and I think this did have an effect on the production side as I don't feel that I gave myself enough time to experiment with lots of different features and this may be shown through the final outcome.

Wanting to produce a professional outcomes is becoming more and more of a part of my design practice I want to be production the highest quality of work that I am capable of, to do that within this brief I tired to produce a high quality website concept but I still don't think that the design of the site is up to the best it could be some parts of the site look very basic and could be improved with collaboration. Although I am still happy with the final outcome but change that I would make would be using Adobe XD to create a run through of the website as this gives a very professional finish to the website making it much easier for the developer to take over and see how it should be in real life.

At this point it is too late to make massive improvements on the project but having tutor and peer feedback from the final crit gives me a good idea of what i could change to improve the site. The feedback that I received has shown me how I can improve over all in digital design and i will be using that in more projects to come as I don't feel that I have explored digital design fully within this brief.
