Final 1 (My chosen design) -
After the feedback sessions I was able to address all of the issues that were bought up, the most noticeable ones being the back copy text that has been left aligned to match the front left aligned text. I also dropped the feather at the bottom into the barcode as this now helps the design to all work together as before it looked out of place as all the others are over lapping or bleeding off the page.
After a lot of thought about the who the orange feather should represent, I thought it would be better if I left that open to the reader as there is no real answer to who it could represent so it much better if the reader analysis it and thinks who it could be symbolising.
My final feedback suggested that this design was the most obvious design which would give it less chance of standing out as a winning submission although it is clean, professional, and engaging. This is making me rethink about the design that I want to submit although this design is my favourite it won't be able to speak for itself as you can not submit a caption with the cover so it need to stand alone.
Final 2 -
Idea two based on some imagery from the book, first the stop watch was left to the children in the knot of the tree by Boo Radley, and this is part of a series of items that are a key part of the book. Second was the idea of time, and how the many people still did no change there opinion on certain people even though the book is set over a number of years. It tried to show this with a with a very minimal style in hope that would think more about the concept rather than beautiful imagery.
Final 3 (Feedback chosen submission) -
As the book is told by a child, I used that to my advantage with this design. By playing on the fact that a child has designed the cover I wanted people to understand the tone of voice of this book and what better way to do this that be very visual with the idea. I don't believe this would be a very successful submission as the skeuomorphic design isn't a very popular style on screen but it could work a lot better printed. But as I would want the best chances of winning this competition I won't be submitting this design.
The feedback session was a surprise this was the design that everyone said would work the best for submission as it different and stands out without any explanation, which is more of what the competition is looking for. It was suggested that before I send it off to Penguin that I should make a few final touches, firstly make the writing look more like a fountain pen as it looks too modern and it would look more authentic if I was to change this. I will also be changing the "Harper Lee" into a hand written type as it looks slightly out of place on the front.
