Studio Brief 01 - Type In Context - Feedback

Going into the crit I had come up with two ideas that I wanted to get some feedback on, first being an idea about how France is a very interesting country and how that is reflected through the typography. This was the idea that I had put much more time into as I thought that it had he best context and story behind it, but the feedback I got wasn't what I expected. Many people said that they thought that the idea would limit my target audience a lot as there isn't many people that would be overly interested in that topic, I thought this was a very good point and I can now see that it would be very difficult to create some good content from this idea, specially using the photos that I have collected.

The second idea went down a lot better, this idea is the a book about forgotten/hidden France, places that people wouldn't normally visit. Originally I hadn't thought about it being a travel guide but it was suggested to me that I make it into a travel guide for creatives/people interested in design as this would give me a larger audience to work with and also the content would be very fresh and something different to what is out there on the market already. I was not expecting this idea to be favoured over the other so i had not developed the concept as far, but now it makes it easy to go away and research into what i can create this book into using the idea of a travel guide.

Tutor Feedback -

After the interim crit I was still umming and ahhing about what concept to go for, I didn't think ether would be strong enough to take further. But I sat down with a couple of my tutors and explained what stage I was at and this then helped me to go through each idea and almost straight away it was clear to me that idea two was much more interesting and engaging for both myself and the target audience. I have now got to take what I discussed with the tutors and get the ball rolling with research and also to continue to develop the idea as the project progress.
