We all decided on two designs to take on to the next stage these were the designs that we felt were most appropriate for the brief, in the case this meant the we was trying to get the right message to the viewer. We are trying to celebrate this culture so we are making sure that we use positive imagery to give off the message. We decided that having illustrations of people interacting (dancing, playing, eating) with each other would give this positive message. As the designers in this project Tom and I also needed to think about how the type could be incorporated into the illustration so we careful selected and then spoke as a group about how the type could be added and whether Joe would need to alter his design. We also decided on the a basic 5 colour colour platelet which means that all the parts of the project will have a running theme and they will interlink.
The next part of the meeting led us to typefaces, Tom spoke to us about the different type choices that we could use and why they would be informed, we needed to make sure that the typeface we choice was going to be representative of the culture and the only one that we all felt was the most informed was Noto. This is a typeface designed by Monotype but the typeface works in over 800 languages which is links well with the diversity of the Parisian youth culture. This is the best typeface to represent the youth culture so we decided that we would use Noto in many ways, it also helps that it has been designed by Monotype this could help us in the D&AD selection process.
We had already decided on the basis of the poster and the we had discussed the animation these are two of the deliverables for the brief, but it also mentions that we need "one other touch point" we wanted to think about the best possible touch point for the brief and we wanted it to be something that would also link with the rest of our informed design. We started thinking about what sort of things we would want as young people, we thought tote bags, t-shirts and stickers as these are all things that are popular among young people at the moment. We thought that we should use stickers as these could then be stuck up around an area, but it also has links to street art and we can be very free when designing stickers as they can go anywhere.
We found the setting weekly job roles was very useful so we countined with this and set different job roles ahead of our next meeting which will be on the 15th March. Here we will bring together Joe final design so that Tom and I can then start to add type to this. In the mean time both myself and Tom will be looking for inspiration for the type based posters as well as thinking about the stickers and what can go onto them. This will put us on schedule for out print slot booked for 20th March.
