book
/bʊk/
noun
- 1.a written or printed work consisting of pages glued or sewn together along one side and bound in covers."a book of selected poems"
- 2.a bound set of blank sheets for writing in."an accounts book"A physical when you look at a book yes, it is simply both of these things but a book can be much more than this I like to look at it as more of a piece of art. If you look at books that are displaying art or made in a more creative way every aspect of the book is beautiful. For example if a book has a stab-stick this can be done with many coloured string and made too look very nice. Then the stock of the book is also another thing that you can think about as the better the paper (the weight or the texture) the better it becomes.By the time you look at at the content, it could even been irrelevant what is inside as long as it had good type setting and high quality images.Below are some examples of books that excellent binding methods, stock and typesetting - of course there is more too a book than these three aspects but these are the areas that I would always look at first and I believe that this is what can make or break a book. For me the more unusual the binding of the book is it makes it better as you can see the effort and the time that had gone into making the book. If you compare these example below to a book that has just been stapled, despite the content the more complex/different will always grab more attention.A good choice of paper stock is always key, this is what make the book better if you are reading something on cheap newsprint it could make the book feel not as good, but it some cases this could be the look of the book that you want. But it doesn't have to always be about how heavy the paper is there will be an appropriate weight for the type of book that you want to produce.
